You can call me the villain
if that helps you sleep at night.
If painting me as the problem
gives you comfort,
closure,
or a story you can live with,
then go ahead.

I know the role you needed me to play.
I know the script you wrote in your head,
the one where you were the wounded hero
and I was the one who broke you.
It’s easier that way, isn’t it?
Easier than admitting the truth.
Easier than facing yourself.

Because in my story,
you’re not the victim
you’re the one who couldn’t look in the mirror
without flinching.
No integrity.
No accountability.
No emotional depth.
Just excuses wrapped in charm,
avoidance dressed up as innocence,
and a heart that never learned
how to tell the truth without twisting it.

I spent so long trying to defend my character,
trying to explain my intentions,
trying to prove my heart
to someone who had already decided
who I was allowed to be.

But the moment I understood yours
the moment I saw the patterns,
the deflection,
the projection,
the way you ran from responsibility
like it was a fire you couldn’t bear to touch
everything became clear.

I realized you didn’t need honesty.
You needed a scapegoat.
You needed someone to carry the weight
of your unhealed wounds,
your unspoken guilt,
your unresolved past.

And for a while,
I carried it.
I carried the blame,
the confusion,
the shame that wasn’t mine.
I carried the burden of your narrative
because I thought love meant understanding,
and understanding meant enduring.

But then something shifted.
Something sacred.
Something liberating.

I stopped trying to defend my character
once I understood yours.
I stopped explaining myself
to someone committed to misunderstanding me.
I stopped shrinking
to fit the version of me
that made you feel better about yourself.

And that
that was the moment
I took my power back.

Not through anger.
Not through revenge.
Not through proving you wrong.

But through clarity.
Through truth.
Through the quiet realization
that I don’t need to be the hero in your story
or the villain in your imagination.

I just need to be whole in mine.
And I am.
Finally, I am.

Scripture

“The truth will set you free.”
John 8:32

Message

You don’t need to rewrite anyone else’s story
just stand firmly in your truth,
and let God handle the rest.
