My life got better
when I realized I didn’t have to be “nice.”
Nice got me walked over.
Nice got me drained.
Nice got me disrespected, overlooked,
and taken for granted.
Because “nice” often means
shrinking yourself to keep the peace,
saying yes when your soul is screaming no,
and tolerating behavior that wounds your spirit.
I’m not nice anymore
but I am a good person.
And that’s the difference.
Goodness has boundaries.
Goodness has discernment.
Goodness knows when to walk away.
Goodness refuses to be mistreated
in the name of being polite.
Good people love deeply,
but they also protect their peace.
Good people forgive,
but they don’t allow repeated harm.
Good people show kindness,
but they don’t sacrifice their worth
to make others comfortable.
I’m not cold — I’m clear.
I’m not rude — I’m real.
I’m not unkind — I’m unapologetically whole.
My life got better
when I stopped performing “niceness”
and started honoring my heart.
When I stopped letting people drain me
and started choosing myself with grace.
Being good is strength.
Being good is wisdom.
Being good is sacred.
And I will never confuse goodness
with being a doormat again.
Scripture
“Let your ‘Yes’ be yes and your ‘No,’ no.”
Matthew 5:37
Message
You don’t have to be “nice” to be loving
you can be kind, firm, honest, and whole
all at the same time.
