I looked in your cup
to see if you needed more.
To see if you were empty,
hurting, tired, or running low.
I checked on you out of love,
out of care,
out of the quiet instinct
to make sure you were okay.
But you looked in my cup
for a different reason.
Not to see if I needed refilling,
but to see if I had more than you.
To measure, to compare,
to compete with what I carried
instead of appreciating it.
And that’s when I realized
we aren’t the same.
Some hearts give without keeping score.
Some hearts pour without expecting anything back.
Some hearts love from abundance,
not insecurity.
Others only look to see
what they’re missing,
what they lack,
what they can take,
or what they can resent.
I checked your cup out of compassion.
You checked mine out of comparison.
And that difference
tells the whole story.
But I won’t let it harden me.
I won’t let it change the way I love.
I’ll keep being who I am
a giver, a nurturer, a soul who pours.
Because my heart is full
not because of what I receive,
but because of who God made me to be.
Scripture
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.
Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.”
Philippians 2:3
Message
Your generosity is a gift
don’t dim it for people who only measure instead of cherish.
