Jesus consistently emphasized justice, mercy, and compassion.
He stood against oppression and uplifted the marginalized.

  • Luke 6:20: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.”
  • Matthew 23:23: Jesus rebuked religious leaders for neglecting justice, mercy, and faithfulness.
  • Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37): Justice is expressed through compassion that transcends social boundaries.

The Old Testament prophets echoed this call:
“Learn to do good; seek justice. Help the oppressed.
Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows” (Isaiah 1:17). Jesus fulfilled this prophetic mission by advocating for the voiceless.

“Learn to do good; seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows”.

Judgment: Who Judges and May We Judge Others?

Jesus warned against hypocritical judgment:

  • Matthew 7:1–2: “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged.”
  • Luke 6:37: “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.
Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned.
Forgive, and you will be forgiven.”

Key truth: We are called to discern right from wrong but not to condemn others. When we judge harshly, we place ourselves in God’s role, which Scripture forbids (James 4:12).

Who Is the Judge in My Life as a Christian?

The Bible is clear: God is the ultimate Judge.

  • Hebrews 12:23: “You have come to God, the Judge of all.”
  • 2 Corinthians 5:10: “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ.”
  • Romans 14:12: “Each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.”

God’s judgment is perfect, impartial, and righteous. Unlike human judgment, which is flawed, His justice is rooted in truth and mercy.

The Deep Meaning of God’s Judgment

God’s judgment is not only punitive but also restorative:

  • Psalm 9:8: “He rules the world in righteousness and judges the peoples with equity.”
  • Amos 5:24: “Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!”
  • Romans 2:6: “God will repay each person according to what they have done.”

Three dimensions of God’s judgment:

  1. Accountability: We are responsible for our actions (Galatians 6:7).
  2. Mercy: “Mercy triumphs over judgment” (James 2:13).
  3. Finality: One day, all will stand before Christ’s judgment seat
    (2 Corinthians 5:10).

Who Is the Advocacy?

The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ is our Advocate.

  • 1 John 2:1: “If anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.”
  • Romans 8:34: “Christ Jesus who died… is at the right hand of God and is interceding for us.”
  • Hebrews 7:25: “He always lives to intercede for those who come to God through Him.”

Jesus’ advocacy means:

  • He pleads our case before the Father.
  • His atoning sacrifice satisfies God’s justice.
  • He bridges the gap between humanity and God as our Mediator
    (1 Timothy 2:5).

Conclusion

Justice and advocacy are central to the Christian life. Jesus calls us to defend the oppressed, show mercy, and walk humbly with God.
Judgment belongs to God alone, whose justice is perfect and whose mercy is abundant.

As believers, we rest in the assurance that Jesus Christ is our Advocate, interceding for us and securing our salvation.
